What the tape shows
Hemby's running style can best be described as efficient. He reads the blocking scheme correctly, identifies the hard and soft edges at the point of attack, presses the crease rather than committing early, and hits the hole decisively. He rarely loses yards by being caught in the backfield, and he rarely turns a potential 8-yard gain into a 4-yard gain by dancing sideways. His 4.9 career YPC across four years and two programs reflects consistency that is not an accident. Do not expect Hemby to make defenders miss in a phone booth. He is not elusive in tight quarters — his value is decisiveness and forward lean, not agility. When defenders have a clean angle, he takes the hit and falls forward. There is no shimmy, no spin move, no jump cut. This limits his effectiveness in spread or wide-zone schemes where the back is asked to create in space.
